What we collect
- Phone number — required for account creation and login.
- Email (optional) — used for receipts, password reset, and account recovery.
- Display name, username, and profile photo — shown on the expenses and activity you share with your friends.
- Your expense data — descriptions, amounts, groups, comments, and optional receipt photos that you create. Visible only to members of the group that expense was recorded in.
- Device identifiers — we store a push-notification token so we can deliver timely updates to your device. Revoked automatically when you sign out or uninstall.
What we don't do
- We do not sell your data or share it with advertisers.
- We do not track you across other apps or websites.
- We do not read your phone's contacts unless you explicitly pick a friend from the contact picker.
How your data is processed
NexSplit runs on a secure backend over HTTPS. Passwords (optional, for email login) are stored
using bcrypt with a 12-round work factor. Your session can be revoked any time from
Settings → Sign out.
Camera, photos, biometrics
The receipt scanner uses your camera only when you tap the "Scan receipt" button;
image text is extracted on-device (Apple Vision / Google ML Kit). The photo picker only
opens when you choose to attach a receipt. Biometrics (Face ID / Touch ID / fingerprint)
stay on your device — we never receive biometric data.
Your rights
- Export — download everything we have on you as CSV or PDF from Settings → Export my data.
- Delete — Settings → Delete account. Your profile is anonymized immediately;
historical expense records stay in shared groups so other members' balances remain correct.
- Contact — email hello@nexsplit.app for any question.
Terms of service (plain English)

accounts that violate this.
- You own your content; by using the service you grant us a license to store, display,
and sync it to the other members of any group you put it in.
